Sports funding forum rescheduled for Gympie

Two information forums about $20 million in Queensland Government funding grants for sport and recreation clubs will be held for the Gympie region after Monday night's forum did not go ahead as planned.

Sport Minister Phil Reeves said he sincerely apologised to anyone who may have been inconvenienced when the original forum was unexpectedly cancelled at short notice without his knowledge.

"We have rescheduled the event and this time we're giving those interested the choice of attending either of two sessions instead of one," Mr Reeves said.

"The first information forum will be held on 27 June, the second on 4 July, and clubs are being advised of those new dates."

The forum will allow clubs to find out about the $20 million Sport and Recreation Infrastructure program, including details of how the program works, how they can apply, and what they can apply for.

Funding will provide for:
•New spaces and places that support sport and recreation participation;
•New or upgraded player and official's amenities;
•Shade structures;
•New multi-purpose facilities; and
•Additional work to flood affected facilities.

Applications for infrastructure funding will be accepted until 25 July 2011.

Clubs can also find out information on other funding initiatives including the Positive or its Pointless equipment grants and the Sport and Recreation Local Jobs Plan program.

The Gympie sports information sessions will be held:
Monday 27 June, 6:30-8:00pm and on Monday 4 July 6.30-8.00pm

Both forums will be held at the Fossickers Room, Gympie Civic Centre, 26 Mellor Street, Gympie.

Anyone planning to attend must register their interest by 12 noon Monday 27 June 2011 by phoning 5352 7296 or emailing
