An ecology expert from Harvard University will give a special public lecture about the future of forests on Monday 14 March at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Professor Aaron Ellison, a Senior Research Fellow in Ecology, will share his knowledge on how foundation species of trees in ecosystems could decline as they cope with challenges like climate change.

Professor Ellison will deliver the free public seminar as part of a week-long visit to USC’s main campus at Sippy Downs and to the University’s Fraser Island Research and Learning Centre.

His one-hour talk at USC, entitled ‘Things fall apart: land-use history, non-native insects, climate change, and the decline of a forest foundation species’, will be the second in USC’s 2016 Forests for the Future seminar series.

Professor Ellison, who is also a semi-professional photographer, has authored or co-authored more than 150 scientific papers and was elected a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America.

The event will be held at USC’s Building K with tea and coffee from 4.30pm prior to the lecture at 5pm.
