Hastings Street - Stories from Noosa's Past, a book by Noosa living legend Emma Freeman

Book Launch  2 pm,  Sunday 14th December, 2003 with guest speaker Leonie Palmer, renowned restaurateur and author. Book signing, nibbles and cash bar

Three years ago Emma Freeman decided to write about the characters of Hastings Street, and her latest work, 'Hastings Street- Stories from Noosa's Past' paints a vivid word picture of a sleepy coastal village awakening during the 1950s and  '60s.

Her biographical and historical themes entwine, linking characters whose creative energies flourished in a dusty, unsealed Hastings Street dotted with holiday houses and tent homes.

Emma's colourful palette highlights figures in the landscape of Noosa's past, as they laid the foundation of the cosmopolitan street we know today.

Emma Freeman

After a childhood creatively steeped in art and music, Emma Freeman emerged into adulthood by training as a dressmaker and tailor, completing three years study, switching to a nursing career for the next nine years.

When she married Kevin Freeman of Noosa, Emma came to live in a tent on Hastings Street where she studied painting with a local artist, Joan Risley, and later with Harry Marriott-Burton, a Royal Academy artist, who had become a Noosa resident.

During the years mothering four children she practised art including eighteen years of sculpture and five years of fabric printing and batik. Over a thirty-year period within that time, she studied Hatha Yoga and wrote thirteen One-Act plays, winning three awards with various productions, and is the author of several published poems.

Discovering that she possessed a highly developed intuition, this talent was directed towards palmistry and other psychic phenomena. Emma's love of music and dancing has found expression in Belly Dancing with the Sunshine Coast Kaliqa Belly Dancers for the last twelve years.

A remarkable book by a remarkable woman
