Tuesday 14 February 2006  Have your say on recreational trail network

Caloundra residents are being encouraged to have their say on the development of a recreational trail network across the City.

Caloundra City Mayor Don Aldous said the Mooloolah River Trail and City Wide Trails draft Master Plans, which go on display this week, propose the upgrading of 11 land based trails and the development of six water based trails across the City.

"Council is keen to provide its residents and visitors with a quality trail network which provides economic, health, social and environmental benefits," Cr Aldous said.

Cr Aldous said the need to plan and develop a trail network was identified in the 2002 Links and Trail Strategy, which considered a number of factors including the needs of the community and existing infrastructure.

"The aim of these draft Master Plans is to provide a series of high usage, well built and maintained trails that highlight the City's natural assets and encourage the community to walk, cycle, ride and canoe.

"It's just another way Council is encouraging the community to get out there and active while taking advantage of our idyllic lifestyle conditions," Cr Aldous said.

The draft plans will be on display in the Kawana, Beerwah, Maleny libraries and in the Customer Service Centre for four weeks from February 17.

Formal community consultations will also be held on the following days:

February 17: 9-11am in the Caloundra Library; 12-2pm at the Maleny Library, and 3-5pm at the Beerwah Library.
February 18: 9-10am at Meeting Room 1, Lake Kawana Community Centre.
February 19: Maleny Handcrafts Markets.
February 25: 9am at Bray Road, next to Mobile Library, Mooloolah.
February 26: Bulcock St Markets.

Comments received as part of the consultation process will be considered in the final Strategy, which is expected to go to Council in May.
