The public are invited to watch as Brisbane Lions players take on volleyball champions at Mooloolaba Beach tomorrow afternoon from 4.00pm.

AFL fans will never have seen the mighty Lions looking like this before.  Sweating it out under the sun, on the sand in the "Challenge of the Champions".

Crowd favourites Captain Michael Voss and Jason Akermanis will join Jamie Charman and Richard Hadley for the match, as they take on volleyball champion Annette Huygens-Tholen.

"I can't wait to see my favourite Lions players battling it out in a sport they're not used to.  It will be more than just any ordinary beach volleyball match, there's a lot of pride at stake," Cr Joe Natoli said.

"The public are invited to watch the "Challenge of Champions" at Mooloolaba, and see whether the Lions really are the mighty sporting heroes we all think they are," he said.  "It's a chance to see them up close and having fun."

"Since I first proposed the idea, and got the various bodies on board, the event has snowballed.  Now 18 skydivers from Sunshine Coast Skydivers will join in the fun, landing in front of the Surf Club to kick off the festivities… it will be huge," Cr Natoli said.

The Brisbane Lions are on the Sunshine Coast as part of the AFL's Community Camps.

One of the highlights of the Brisbane Lions AFL Community Camp on the Sunshine Coast will be the training session and subsequent superclinic at Buderim.

The Lions will train at John Blanck Oval, which is situated at the end of Syd Lingard Drive in Buderim, not far from the Sunshine Motorway.

Last year's training session and superclinic attracted bigger than expected crowds in Toowoomba and youngsters aged 5-14 from around the Coast are welcome to come and meet the AFL heroes on Wednesday February 4 from 5pm.

The Lions will be happy to talk to local fans and sign autographs at the conclusion of the clinic.

Other major public appearances include a series of forums at Immanual Lutheran College that night where local administrators and members of the public will be able to talk football with the player and coaching group.

Most of the players will also participate in beach activities at Mooloolaba on Tuesday February 3 from around 3.45pm
