Biosecurity Queensland community engagement officers continue to be out in force, providing information and advice to residents and horse owners about Hendra virus.

Queensland Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Rick Symons said an information seminar would be held this week in Hervey Bay for all community members.

“This seminar, on Friday 22 July, is for people who want to learn more about Hendra virus or who have questions about the current situation," Dr Symons said.

“It will be led by staff from Biosecurity Queensland and the Queensland Horse Council.

“A Hendra virus information booth has also been set up at the Pialba office of the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI)."

Dr Symons said it was crucial that horse and property owners, event organisers and the community as a whole, take advantage of the information on offer.

“Biosecurity Queensland has disseminated a large amount of information to the community about Hendra virus, including how to protect yourself, your horse and your property,” he said.

“We have a large team of community engagement officers who continue to travel throughout the affected regions and neighbouring suburbs.

”Biosecurity Queensland officers are continuing to liaise with industry and local government and are going door to door in affected areas to offer Hendra virus information to residents.

“The information seminars being held throughout the state are an excellent opportunity for residents to hear the latest Hendra virus information and ask questions.”
