The Annual Homegrown Music Festival is back in action once again celebrating its 12th year running. This iconic Sunshine Coast music event is well recognised as one of the most substantial dates on the local music calendar. The event is run to coincide with National Youth Week in April with Homegrown wrapping up celebrations on the 22nd.
The festival itself is a unique one day music event and is run by youth, for youth, drawing upon the talent of a dynamic volunteer team and industry mentors who encourage the team in parallel with the 2012 NYW motto ‘Imagine. Create. Inspire’.
The event is designed for the youth of the Sunshine Coast and is an outlet for local bands and music fans alike to enjoy the alternative music of their generation in a drug and alcohol free environment. Throughout the years this free event has continually grown in popularity and has brought amazing headline acts to the beautiful Alexandra Headlands beach front, such as Dead Letter Circus, Numbers Radio and COG.
The aim of the event is to provide a platform for youth to express their ideas and issues of concern to the community and celebrate the positive contribution made by our young people’s talents. This year the festival will feature a ‘chill out tent’ which will act as a stage for attendees to voice their concerns and opinions on relevant youth issues.
Homegrown’s roots are based around offering a musical platform for local acts to gain experience playing to large crowds and alongside seasoned artists, however it also incorporates other youth entertainment such as skate / surf demonstrations. As well as the primary youth focus the event also aims to support local business within the area and provides an amazing atmosphere for businesses to host market stalls at the event.
Homegrown will be supported by generous sponsors and organisational partnerships with Uniting Care Community, Sunshine Coast Council, A-venue Program, Queensland Government Department of Communities and the Sunshine Coast Youth Partnership.
