Well-being is a skill that can be learned. Just as we can use diet and exercise to improve physical health, we can also train in techniques that increase mental health and resilience. Some of these techniques have stood the test of time in ancient contemplative traditions and more recently stood the test of scientific rigour. Modern psychology and neuroscience have found some of these ancient techniques to be critical in cultivating 21st century well-being.
In this workshop, you will learn about these techniques, how to implement them, and what benefits to expect from practising them. For decades Alan Wallace has pioneered the exploration of the common ground of science and contemplative traditions and teaches how to successfully harnesses the full potential of both.

PARKING ADVICE NB
You will need to pay for a day's parking at USC, which is $5. Each carpark has a pay machine. Tickets do not need to be displayed (computerised system). Sunshine Coast Council parking officers are hyper-vigilant! Finding a parking spot can take time. We recommend arriving at USC for 9.15am so you have enough time to find a parking spot and walk to the Innovation Centre. (There is a car park directly behind the Innovation Centre, but it gets full quickly. Keep looking, there are more carparks at the back of the campus).
Dynamic lecturer, progressive scholar, and one of the most prolific writers and translators of Tibetan Buddhism in the West, B. Alan Wallace, Ph.D., continually seeks innovative ways to integrate Buddhist contemplative practices with Western science to advance the study of the mind. Dr. Wallace, a scholar and practitioner of Buddhism since 1970, has taught Buddhist theory and meditation worldwide since 1976.
Having devoted fourteen years to training as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, ordained by H. H. the Dalai Lama, he went on to earn an undergraduate degree in physics and the philosophy of science at Amherst College and a doctorate in religious studies at Stanford. With his unique background, Alan brings deep experience and applied skills to the challenge of integrating traditional Indo-Tibetan Buddhism with the modern world.
