We pride ourselves on being a free and open society.

And it cannot be denied that successive waves of immigrants from many diverse cultures have helped define us.

For decades now, new arrivals have been encouraged to celebrate their ethnic backgrounds while embracing ‘The Australian way of life’.

We call it “multiculturalism” - but is this now under threat?

As feelings reach breaking point in the Middle East and elsewhere, many Australians are questioning the actions of Muslims in our society.

At the same time, others are calling for tolerance and greater cultural understanding.

It is a raw topic that needs to be dealt with sensitively, but nor should we shy away from open discussion.

Join us for this special forum where a hand-picked panel of lived experience will set out to enlighten us on an issue that is shaping as yet another challenge for our diverse society.

Speakers include; Robin de Crespigny, Yasmin Kahn and Sharri Markson.

Paul Barclay will moderate this session recorded for RN’s Big Ideas.
