Chill out to the island beat
With the idyllic backdrop of Moffat Beach and the cool sounds of reggae, Sunshine Coast Council’s final free Sundayze Series community event is set to be a crowd pleaser.
Island Beatz will be held at Eleanor Shipley Memorial Park, Bryce Street at Moffat Beach on Sunday 26 August 2012 from 2pm to 4pm.
Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said council’s Community and Celebrations Strategy highlighted the importance of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a sense of place.
“The Sundayze Series has given the community an opportunity to experience free live entertainment and activities across the region and has been well received,” Cr Dwyer said.
“I encourage the community to gather their friends and family and come along and enjoy an afternoon of some of the region’s best talent in the beautiful seaside setting of Moffat Beach as the series wraps up.”
Popular local bands The Floating Bridges and The Green Room will feature in the line-up.
Local residents will be familiar with The Floating Bridges from their energetic live performances across the Sunshine Coast over the last few years. Having supported Aussie acts like Jimmy Barnes and John Butler, The Floating Bridges are a driving force in the Australian music scene, fusing a five piece blend of Roots, Funk, Rock and Reggae.
The Green Room is a creative four piece band with a unique yet distinctive sound infusing a reggae influence with surf rock undertones. Since early 2010 the band has been impressing audiences with cleverly constructed tunes and a positive message presented in a high energy stage show.
The Pantastic Steelband’s roving three piece band brings the taste of the Caribbean to your doorstep with their bright, rhythmic music played on Trinidadian steel drums. Whether playing traditional calypsos or popular songs, the music has an immediate appeal guaranteed to put a smile on your face or a spring in your step.
If you need further incentive to get along to this free, family-friendly community event, there will be free face painting and a jumping castle for the kids. Don’t forget to pack a picnic, bring your own chair and chill out for a Sunday afternoon treat.
Patrons are also encouraged to check out the nearby, local café scene on Seaview Terrace.
In the event of inclement weather conditions, Island Beatz will be moved indoors to Queen Street Community Hall, opposite Caloundra High School. Council’s website and Facebook pages will be updated the morning of the event to advise of any last minute program changes.
