It's that very cute and cuddly time of year again as Puppy Week comes to the Sunshine Coast and volunteers are still desperately being sought to help.

Puppy Week activities are being held at Noosa Fair from 12th - 17th September; Kawana Shopping World from 19th - 24th September; Stockland Shopping Centre in Caloundra from 26th September - 1st October and Sunshine Plaza from the 3rd - 8th October.

Guide Dogs Queensland is putting out an urgent call for volunteers to help with activities during Puppy Week.

Guide Dogs puppies will be putting in appearances at the shopping centres and checking out the likeness of the huge range of puppy toys on sale.

Guide dogs Queensland Fundraising Manager Karen Furnivall says all money raised from the sale of the puppy toys will be used to fund the Guide Dog Puppy Development program.

"The program is a vital part of the training process during which puppies learn basic obedience and become familiar with day-to-day experiences such as visiting shopping centres and travelling on public transport," Karen said.

"The journey of turning a playful pup into a professional Guide dog is a very costly exercise involving one-on-one intensive training by qualified staff.  It currently costs more than $25,000 to breed, train and place just one Guide Dog and all Guide Dogs are provided completely free-of-charge."

"We have 8 gorgeous Labrador Retriever puppies  born on the 28th of August that will be placed with puppy raisers in about 4 weeks time.  These cute little bundles of joy that have only just opened their eyes and started walking will receive a lot of love and care from their families.

The financial support we receive from the community during Puppy Week will help pay for the other essentials in the puppies lives including food, veterinary care, grooming equipment, kennel stays, collars, leads, and the wonderful pink "L" coats."

Guide Dogs Queensland receives less than 7 per cent government funding and relies heavily upon the community to support events such as Puppy Week and help fund their Guide Dog services.
