In the annals of history, Gralton (Barry Ward), is best known as the only Irishman ever deported from Ireland – and Jimmy’s Hall explains why in County Leitrim in the early thirties he returned home to find his community recovering from civil war, and his townsfolk desperate for a way to spend their time.  His young people’s centre became a haven for locals wanting to dance, box, and come together, but attracted condemnation from The Catholic Church.  The people celebrated him as a hero, the conservative faction branded him a communist.
