I believe that one can never leave home. I believe that one carries the shadows, the dreams, the fears and dragons of home under one’s skin, at the extreme corners of one’s eyes and possibly in the gristle of the earlobe.
Maya Angelou. 'Home' in Letter to My Daughter. Random House. New York. 2008.
Journey into Mourning is an exhibition of paintings which explore the experiences of memory and nostalgic longing for the idea of home. Deposition of memory, loss and identity within personal landscapes acts as a stimulus for the audience to consider their own history and the process of nostalgia.
