Sunshine Coast Choir to join Orchestra for 20th Anniversary celebration concert

Award winning choral group the Sunshine Coast Oriana Concert Choir are excited to be joining the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra for two very special concert events entitled 'Joy and Lamentation', as part of the Orchestra's 20th Anniversary commemorations. The November 21 and 28 events, to be performed at the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre at South Bank and the Lake Kawana Centre, Bokarina, will present Haydn's Te Deum and Mozart's beloved 'Requiem'.

Mozart's final work, left incomplete at his death, has always been surrounded by mystery and intrigue and in the two centuries since the creation of Requiem there have been numerous romantic exaggerations and wild speculation. A lucrative commission by an anonymous stranger - portrayed as a herald of the composer's own premature death - led to many tales and stories in the nineteenth century and became the basis for dramatic works on Mozart's life in the twentieth century. While the reality is somewhat more prosaic, the Requiem itself remains one of the most intimate, fervent and profound of Mozart's works.

"'Requiem' is an incredibly moving and powerful work," said Mr Pamenter-Calder. "And the Te Deum is so full of praise and thanksgiving. We've been really enjoying working together to present something new and fresh."

This is a first time collaboration for the acclaimed musicians and singers, one that is sure to be the first of many. "The partnership between the two groups has certainly been rewarding," said Oriana Musical Director Daniel Pamenter-Calder. "We were thrilled to be able to join the Orchestra to be a part of their birthday celebrations."

Oriana recently celebrated their own milestone, as November marks the 5th anniversary of the choir's first rehearsal.

Joining Oriana and BSO for the performances are soprano Melinda van der Meulen, contralto Cassandra Seidemann, tenor Dominic Walsh and bass Sam Hartley.

Tickets for the November 21 performance at the Conservatorium Theatre are available at Qtix, 136 246,, and for the November 28 performance at the Lake Kawana Centre at Sunshine FM, 5450 1049.
