Crafty visitors in search of hand-made treasures are in for a treat during the annual Caloundra Arts Centre Fair, one of the biggest events of its kind on the Sunshine Coast, over the June 6-7 weekend.
The Caloundra Arts Association has over 17 different member groups who prepare items such as embroidery, pottery, paintings, jewellery and quilting as part of their major fund-raiser.
Fair convenor June Evans said three huge rooms would be packed full of art and craft items for sale at reasonable prices. She said the fair was also very well known for its produce that included cakes, biscuits and sweets.
"The arts and crafts skills that are represented among our members is something that visitors will appreciate and it is rare to have the opportunity to buy something that is unique and hand-made," June said.
You will fall in love with Pearl Harvey's work that includes crocheting and embroidery, particularly her teddy bears, handkerchiefs, and hand towels. Pearl was the long-serving fair convenor before her retirement and is a life member of the association.
The Arts Centre supports charity organisations and donated $1000 from the proceeds of last year's fair to Sunshine Coast Hospice. Among the groups they are supporting this year is the Currimundi Special School.
Three big raffles will be run offering prizes that include a food hamper, hand embroidered framed bottle brush and a hand-embroidered quilt.
The Fair is at the Arts Centre in North Street, Golden Beach, opposite Rydges Oasis Resort, and is open from 9am till 4pm on the Saturday and on Sunday from 9am till 3pm. Free admission and food and light refreshments available.
