Cancer Council Relay for Life back for 2012 THE countdown is on to Cancer Council Queensland’s annual Relay for Life fundraiser this weekend at Stockland Park in Kawana.
Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie has a particular motivation to be involved in the annual event as his mother is one of the lucky ones to have survived cancer.
“My mother, Christine had a melanoma twelve years ago which was removed but that proved to be unsuccessful, so she had another surgery to remove the malignant cancer from her lymph nodes,” Mr Bleijie said.
“It just goes to show cancer really can happen to anyone; Mum was never one to sunbake.”
With 41 Teams and over 400 volunteers set to share in the 18 hour event, this year’s relay promises to be one of the biggest charity events on our local calendar.
“The teams have set a fundraising goal of $65,000 for the Kawana Relay,” Mr Bleijie said.
“There will be prizes and novelty events to ensure that all participants are having fun while raising funds for cancer research in Queensland.
“My team – the mad hatters are participating in the Relay again and walking the track throughout the night, so come along enjoy the fun and help raise some money for the Cancer Council,” Mr Bleijie said.
