06 September 2006 Kenilworth Celebrates! 2006
The ninth annual Kenilworth Celebrates! Arts Festival, is set to bring the streets of Kenilworth to life during the three-day celebration of the arts being held from 22 - 25 September 2006.
Proudly presented by the Kenilworth Arts Council, the festival will draw crowds from across the entire Sunshine Coast and beyond to participate in the street entertainment, music, live performances and the unique Poets' Breakfast.
The weekend will also see award winning paintings, sculpture and pottery on display, in addition to the Will Kelly exhibition at St John Bosco Church and the announcement of the winner of the Maroochy Mayor's Acquisition Prize of $10,000.
Division One Councillor Greg Rogerson said in addition to being a showcase and celebration of artistic talent, the Kenilworth Celebrates Festival provided significant economic benefits to the area.
"This event is a special one for Maroochy and a great deal of credit must be paid to the Kenilworth Arts Council that was formed back in 1989 and currently has more than 80 members ranging from nine years-of-age to 90," Cr Rogerson said.
"Over the years, the Kenilworth Arts Council has developed this festival into one of the key art and cultural events in my shire.
"It recognised the exceptional talent we have not only here on the Sunshine Coast, but also Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Toowoomba and across the country."
Cr Rogerson said the art, music, street performances and workshops brought a variety of cultural activities and an increasing number of tourists to the town every year.
"From it's humble beginning, the festival has grown significantly and now runs over three days. It attracts people from around Australia and internationally.
"Thanks to events like Kenilworth Celebrates!, tourism has become a major part of the town's economic sustainability.
"This is important not only for Kenilworth but the entire shire, and this initiative is strongly supported by Maroochy Council," Cr Rogerson said. "Each and every year, this event makes me feel exceptionally proud that I represent Kenilworth and its surrounding communities."
