Be active, get connected, stay involved
The Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) Sunshine Coast Regional Branch is a group of mental health nurses who volunteer their time to advance mental health and mental health nursing. The ACMHN wishes to actively promote awareness for the community by presenting Lars and the Real Girl.
Lars and the Real Girl is a 2007 Canadian film that was nominated for several academy awards. Essentially the film has a strong and positive message about community acceptance. It answers the question: what happens when a community accepts and supports a person affected by serious mental illness, rather than rejects, stigmatises and avoids him?
