LEADLIGHT CLASSES-COOROY BUTTER FACTORY Arts Centre 18 May, 9.30am -12.30pm
Starting Sunday morning, 18 May, Cooran Artist Jason Makeig is running classes in basic leadlighting at the Centre.
"The Butter Factory has become a valuable venue for supporting the arts as a place of hands-on-action-learning" says Jason.
Jason has been a practitioner in glass for 26 years and has explored a variety of approaches to working with the medium.
Recently he completed a major glass mural in the foyer of the new Gympie Emergency Hospital extension. He says he relished this project as it enabled him to step outside the 'square' in design and use of materials while completing a major public artwork based on a very contemporary theme that paid tribute to the heightened emotion of the Mary River's environment.
Other samples of Jason's 'freeform' work can be seen at the Hyatt Regency Restaurant in Coolum and the Cooroy Butter Factory - these 3 major new works are now on show after being displayed at an exhibition at the National Glass Art Gallery in Wagga Wagga recently. Jason says "I was truly flattered to be included in this exhibition as I was rubbing shoulders with mentors who once inspired my early enthusiasm in glass as a medium for art".
Having completed many works for private, ecclesiastical and commercial clients in South East Queensland and beyond, over the years, Jason feels he has a good eye for training newcomers keen to make a start. "Interestingly I always learn something from the humble beginner and enjoy the opportunity to ensure a fun atmosphere during the teacher/student duration" says Jason.
