Dr Leslie Cannold is an author, commentator, ethicist, researcher and social activist whose views and reviews are regularly seen in our major newspapers, radio and TV outlets.
In 2005 she was listed alongside Professor Peter Singer and Professor Gustav Nossal by The Age as one of Australia’s top public intellectuals. This year she was honoured as the Australian Humanist of the Year.
Until now, Leslie’s work has been confined just to non-fiction. The Abortion Myth was rated “outstanding” by the American Library Association and What No Baby? made the Her first novel The Book of Rachael was published in April and the story of Jesus of Nazareth’s sister has already has been hailed as an “historical page turner."
Leslie says her decision to write the book was caused by “curiosity and the itch of injustice.”
Her conversation with Ita Buttrose on her reasons for writing “Rachael” plus her reflections on choice as the president of Reproductive Choice Australia and a Dying with Dignity ambassador for law reform will make absorbing listening.
You may also discover a thing or two about Leslie’s rock cover band, Speedy Fish, of which she is the lead singer!
