The play is set in the couples’ homes in both Noosa and Sydney as well as in various local cafes.
What happens when people holding widely different political views and values are thrown together?
Toby, a maker of hard-hitting documentaries, flees Sydney with his wife, Ros, a successful no nonsense book editor. He arrives at his old childhood haven only to find the area has been transformed into a playground for rich seachangers. They are to celebrate Toby’s 60th birthday dinner with Ros’s old school acquaintance, Natasha, and her wealthy property developer husband, Ron. Add into the mix the couples’ two apposite offspring, Rick, a struggling musician and Emma, a ruthless corporate lawyer, the scene is set for a night of hilarity and surprise.
It is set in highly charged political times from the election of Kevin Rudd, through to the GFC and beyond. This provides fertile ground for arguments and disagreements on a range of highly contentious issues. Fuelling this volatile mix are family dilemmas that audiences will easily relate to, all delivered in David Williamson’s velvet glove of sarcasm and wit.
Let the Sunshine will be performed at The Events Centre, Caloundra for one night only following its sell-out run in Maleny.
