Harmony Day is the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination and Lifeline Community Care believes this an important
message to bring to our culturally diverse coastal community.
If you look around our lovely Sunshine Coast most of you will realise just how many different cultures call this slice of heaven home. To celebrate and liberate this diversity Lifeline are hosting an evening of fundraising, frills, nibbles, drinks and dancing called "Lifeline's Echoes of Latin America".
The fundraising evening, held on Saturday 21st March at Lake Kawana Community Centre, will be a colourful array of Brazilian and Cuban Dancers in full costume from the exotic, Cuban Dance Company. The costumes and dances emanate South American tradition with popular Latin dances like Salsa and Samba which are the two typical dances of Cuba and Brazil respectively.
Following on an appeal from Lifeline Australia, Lifeline Sunshine Coast have begun to fill extra shifts to help support people affected by the current bushfire and flood disasters. Therefore, all proceeds from the night will go to support the increased demand for telephone and face-to-face counselling in the region.
During the evening there will be a welcome to the land from Adrian Ross's enchanting didgeridoo playing, an exotic Cuban/Brazilian show, a 30 minute Latin dancing lesson, finger food, raffles and a silent auction of paintings, photography, dinners for two, passes to the cinema and lots of other exciting items.
Since Harmony Day began ten years ago, thousands of schools, community groups and organisations across Australia have hosted Harmony Day events with Lifeline joining in for the first time this year in support of promoting respect, fairness and a sense of belonging for everyone.
