'TACTUM ' (I touch) is a solo-exhibition of paintings and interactive installations by emerging artist, Lisa Thornhill. This upcoming exhibition explores the culture of vision-impairment through contemporary art. It will be on display during Deaf and Blind Awareness Week 16-30 June at the Noosa Regional Gallery.

Lisa's art has a unique, tactile quality and brings a third dimension to the two-dimensional canvas surface. The sense of touch is primary to her art making process.

She studied Visual Arts at the Cooloola Institute of TAFE in 2002/03 and has since pursued a full-time painting career. Lisa exhibits in galleries on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast and her works are in various private collections in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, London and Dubai. Lisa has completed numerous private and corporate commissions, including Daydream Island International Resort and Conrad Jupiters Casino, Gold Coast.

During her studies, Lisa developed an interest in Braille and became involved with the vision-impaired community. In order to gain an accurate perspective, she sort involvement of numerous vision-impaired locals. Through this exhibition she is hoping to promote an awareness of vision-impairment. "I see my work as a paradox: it unifies the culture of vision-impairment with visual art."

In support of the exhibition the Noosa Shire Council has granted funding through the RADF (Regional Arts Development Fund) Program. Additional organisations endorsing her work are Guide Dogs Qld, Qld Braille Writing Association and the Mooloolaba Blind and Vision Impaired Persons Network. Lisa will be donating 30% of sales to these supporting organisations.

The exhibition opens on Saturday 18 June at 2pm.
