9 June 2005 Local Government Week 2005
'Engaging Communities'

It's on again!

Local Government Week, 13 - 19 June, is an annual event that allows councils throughout Queensland to open their doors and educate their communities about the services and facilities they offer - and Maroochy Shire Council is getting in on the fun.

This year, the theme is "Engaging Communities", which is something Maroochy Council is very familiar with thanks to its award winning public participation program and successful Maroochy 2025 project.

There are lots of activities arranged for Local Government Week in Maroochy Shire, so why not be part of the fun from 13 - 19 June and learn more about your local Council and what it can do for you!

Program of Local Government Week activities:

Tuesday, 14 June
Maroochy Shire Foundation Achiever Awards
Launched on Tuesday, 14 June, the awards seek to recognise those in the community who have achieved success in cultural, educational and humanitarian fields. This is the last year for the awards, so if you know an outstanding achiever, make sure you nominate them before 29 July.

Photography Competition
The winners of Council's annual Photography Competition will be announced and presented with their prize. All entries will be on display at the Nambour Civic Centre between 14 -26 June.

Wednesday, 15 June
Material Recovery Facility Tours
Council's Material Recovery Facility will open its doors to the public on Wednesday, 15 June. Public tours will be available from 9.30am and 10.45am. Bookings are required and can be made through Council's Customer Service Centre on 1300 366 695.

Maroochy Shire Council displays
Council will have a display at the Nambour Civic Centre from Tuesday, 14 June until Sunday, 26 June, which will showcase the photography competition entries and winners. The display will also contain information on the development of Maroochy's Social Plan. Council's Swimming Pool Inspection Team will also have a display at the Sunshine Coast Show at the Maroochy Show grounds between Thursday, 16 June and Saturday, 18 June.

Micro chipping Day - have your pet micro chipped at a discount price Council will hold a micro chipping day on Saturday, 18 June at the Elizabeth Daniels Pet Park, Syd Lingard Drive, Buderim. Micro chips are a great way to keep track of your furry friends and cause no discomfort or pain to your pet. Between 9.00am and 2.00pm, Council is offering a discount micro chipping service - only $20 per pet. Pet owners must bring dogs on leads and cats in cat cages.

A variety of exhibits have been arranged for the day, including:

* Forest Glen Deer Sanctuary will have some fun, furry, slippery and slithery young and bouncy friends.
* Bunnings Maroochydore will hold three free kids craft sessions throughout the day.
* Grab a snag and a drink - Council officers will be cooking up a storm with all proceeds going towards Cystic Fibrosis Australia.
* Lots of pet experts will be on hand to answer your questions including people from K9 Collars, TLC Pet Foods, Hound House, Pets in Peace, Dial a House Minder and LOTS more.
