Radio’s Golden Days will be relived for just one weekend with the Lux Radio Theatre Show at Eumundi (Friday, Saturday 2nd, 3rd and Sunday 4th September).
Well over half a century ago television closed down an era which saw Australian families glued to their radio sets every Sunday night.
Live radio drama flourished until 1956, when suddenly we could see the actors on a screen, instead of just hearing them and that changed our home entertainment virtually overnight.
The magical days of radio, when live drama, serials, variety and quiz shows dominated, will come back to life with The Independent Theatre’s Lux Radio Theatre Weekend. There’s screening of archival footage of stars like Jack Davey, Bob Dyer and many more, plus the radio drama The Third Man, presented live on stage, with actors in evening wear and live sound effects.
In keeping with the step-back in time, pies will be available all weekend for just $1.
