Arrangements are almost complete for the "Make A Wish Flathead Challenge" to be conducted on the waters of Pumicestone Passage, Caloundra on the Weekend of September 11and 12 2004.
This strictly "Catch and Release " fishing tournament using Lures and or Fly, is being once again conducted by the "Lure and Fly Anglers Club Sunshine Coast Inc"with all profits being passed to the Make A Wish Foundation "Sunshine Coast Branch.
This will be the 4th such Fishing Competition organised by this small Community minded Club following similar events in 2000--2001&2002.
Fish captured by Entrants are measured by Club "on water Marshalls"and then immediately released before points are awarded to the Competitor.
All prizes have been provided by local and interstate sponsors and include such as Fishing Rods and Reels, Ice Boxes, Fishing Gear, Complimentary passes to Australia Zoo and Underwater world, Subscriptions to Fishing Magazines and many others.
The Major prize of a fully fitted out 15'6" Canoe built locally, fitted with an Electric Motor and Sounder with a total value at over $2500.00 will be drawn from the list of entrant's names meaning that every entrant will have the same chance of winning.
Many other prizes will be awarded in the same manner.
Every entrant will receive a "Goodie Bag "of Lures and other items valued at over $40.00.
Lures valued at over $2500.00 have been sponsored by 6 local lure manufacturers.
The current Value of Prizes donated and to be won is in excess of $11 000.00 an indication of the Sponsorship support that has been received.
The Caloundra City Council has been extremely supportive with Cash donations toward costs and with practical help and approval for the event to be staged out of Jensen Park at Golden Beach.
The local Make A Wish committee will be taking part by providing hot food on Saturday and Sunday. Drinks will be available.
Fishing will be from 6am to11am and 12 to 4pm Saturday and 6am to11.30 on Sunday after which the prize winners will be decided .Lucky draws will take place starting at "Sign On" and briefing on Friday at 7pm and continue Saturday at Meal breaks.
The local Irish Band "TIS" will be playing on Friday evening.
The club has had a very gratifying level of enquiries from possible contestants and we expect a large field of competitors.
A special prize will be drawn for entries received before September 1st.
