Look no further than the Maleny Music Festival if you want a sense of community connection where the whole family can enjoy the friendly vibe of home grown and international artists.
The Festival is filled with talented musicians, chances for you to try out new things and performances with a difference.
Program Director, Noel Gardner says the Festival is getting a shake-up in 2015. ‘We’ve introduced late night comedy on Friday night this year. Some of the best comedians from the Comedy Festivals around Australia will be here to entertain. For those that are up early, there’s yoga and the Bush Poet’s Breakfasts – a great way to start the day.’
Songwriting, singing, ukulele, banjo and guitar workshops will appeal to those looking for something a little extra. There’s even masses of street theatre to entertain as you make your way between pavilions. Friday and Saturday nights feature some great dance bands that will have people on the dance floor in no time.
‘You’ll definitely be able to find something you like amongst the Funk, Gypsy Folk, Klemzer Music, Folk, Bluegrass, Jazz, Irish bands, Ukulele and Acapella harmony groups. Not to mention a band who funks it up with a 2 metre high electric harp,’ says Noel.
The kids are going to have a wonderful time too. There’s a Circus Show for them on Saturday afternoon amongst other fun activities like hula hooping and playing on marimbas.
The festival again will provide free music to Maleny’s townsfolk and visitors on Saturday morning in the main street outside the Maleny Credit Union.
Organisers have always ensured that the town shares in the event even if they can’t get to the Showgrounds.
Volunteer Coordinator, Gabriel Monson says, ‘We’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors into the community and showing them what a wonderful town this is. The Festival is run by a small committee of volunteers and only functions because of around 150 volunteers throughout the 3 days – we couldn’t do it without the strong community support of the Maleny residents.’
There’s plenty of onsite camping for those who want to do the full 3 days of the Festival and make the most of their time in the Hinterland.
Alternatively you can buy day or evening passes if you’re short on time. Plenty of food stalls will keep Festival goers fuelled throughout the weekend and there’s always the chance to put your feet up with a little tipple and chill out for a while.
