Neighbouring Councils will be on a mangrove planting learning curve on Wednesday, February 25th, when Noosa Shire Conservation Reserves Supervisor David Burrows leads a four-strong flotilla up the Noosa River.
Maroochy and Caloundra Council staff will have a boat each; another will be manned by Noosa Integrated Catchment Association members and the fourth by Noosa River Ranger Michael McNamara and Mr Burrows.
David Burrows and his teams have perfected a successful method of harvesting mangrove seed and planting it in protective pipes along the Noosa river banks to safeguard fish habitat. The exercise requires some skill - which Mr Burrows will be passing on to Maroochy and Caloundra personnel. Wednesday's trip has been timed to coincide with the seeding period.
Flotilla will depart Tewantin boat ramp (near Noosa Harbour) at 8.30 am Wednesday 25th.
