A display of masks and sculptures in ceramic and mixed media by Julie Wall
March 25 to April 6,
Opening Saturday 26, 2 pm
A well travelled local artist, Julie's inspiration comes from faces and form and cultures, specifically the primitive art of the ancients.
Masks are used as a psychological disguise, to empower the wearer to portray an illusion. My interest in masks stems from African Art and primitive man, who wore masks in ceremonies, to worship the universal power, to portray the hunt and instill both fear and respect.
The mask of modern man is worn through the displays of his success, whether it be material, intellectual or spiritual, which allows him to place himself, at least in his own eyes above those with whom he lives.
My masks reflect my interest in the human form and expression and draw on my travels through Africa and China. Julie Wall
