February 14, 2006 Big band's first 2006 performance
The award-winning Sunshine Coast Concert Band's first appearance for 2006 will be a 'Meet the Band' concert to raise funds for the Nambour Special School, on Sunday, March 12 at the Kawana Community Hall.
The band, led by musical director, Ken Chadwick, will be accompanied by local singers, Bev Gourlay and Allan Winter and event compere, Cam Young. The 40-piece band's repertoire will include a great variety of classics such as In the Mood, Satin Doll, Ciriciribin, Junpin' At the Woodside, Bohemian Rhapsody, It's De Ja Vu and Seventy Six Trombones.
"Those attending will also enjoy impressive trombone, alto sax and tenor sax solos and all in all, the event promises to be a great afternoon of entertainment," Ken Chadwick said.
"We are really looking forward to our first performance of the new year. The support for the band last year was fantastic and as a result we raised over $10,000 for a range local charities."
The band recently received Caloundra's 2005 Events Award in recognition for their fantastic 'Victory in the Pacific' Ball and they are already looking forward to their next dance when the big stage band will host a night of "Dancing with the Stars" in April.
All funds raised at the March 12 concert will go to the Nambour Special School. The concert will be held at the Kawana Community Hall in Buddina and tickets ($10 including afternoon tea) will be available at the door. For more information please call 5450 6680.
