The RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk is twenty this year! Arguably the biggest doggy day out in Queensland, not to mention the nation’s canine calendar, this year RSPCA Qld is hoping to raise $250,000 for dogs in need.
Nearly 45,000 animals pass through RSPCA Qld Animal Care Centres every year and more than 18,000 of these are dogs that have been surrendered, abandoned or rescued by RSPCA Inspectors.
These dogs are not as fortunate as your much loved family pet. They often need several hundred dollars’ worth of vet care before they can be adopted, and yet nearly 100% of RSPCA Qld’s work is funded by caring people in the community. The cost to our community for these animals in need is in the millions.
The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is a great day out with your best friend, while raising awareness for rescue dogs. All funds raised help provide for the care and treatment of homeless and neglected dogs who simply deserve a second chance.
This year there are 28 walk locations throughout Queensland and don’t forget, even if you can’t walk, you can still fundraise. The activities vary at each walk but you can guarantee that it will be an event not to be missed by pooches or their human companions.
How to get involved:
1. Register online & pay your registration fee
2. Create your online fundraising page
3. Ask your friends & family to sponsor you
“This year we’re encouraging event-goers to try and raise $150 each. Each year, RSPCA Queensland must find $39 million to help animals, and we receive less than one percent of that figure in Government funding. Just $150 will provide an animal with a second chance at a long and happy life, so we hope to see lots of fundraisers participate,” said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty.
