Moroccan Roll is the type of cover band that brings back the memories. Covering the Rock 'n' Roll classic hits of the 50's, 60's and 70's, the band has performed at clubs and functions from Bundaberg to Bribie Island consistently since forming in 2008.
The band consists of Bruce Tate on drums, Malcolm Ferguson on guitar, Kevin Gray on bass guitar and Maggie Tate on vocals with all band members also contributing vocally.
Originally from New Zealand, Bruce has played drums, bass and rhythm guitar in Australia, Fiji, Noumea and New Zealand with many groups since leaving school. During his musical career he has backed many well known artists including Ray Columbus, Dinah Lee, Johnny Devlin and Buddy Williams. He and Maggie formed Moroccan Roll in 2008.
Maggie has a varied musical background including work with the Port Stephens choir and the Midnight Special’s in Hunter Valley. On relocating to Queensland she organised and performed in an ensemble entertainment for seniors on the Sunshine Coast whilst also being a member of a Country Music Club in South East Queensland.
A Maryborough native, Kevin won the junior section of Australian Country music Awards in the early 1970's. He was asked by Peter Lee to join The Blue Heeler Band to back The Webb Brothers who went on to establish the Gympie Music Muster, whilst also touring Queensland backing artists at festivals. Since leaving The Blue Heeler’s, Kevin has worked extensively in the Wide Bay as a soloist and in duos and trios over the last 15 years before joining Moroccan Roll in 2009.
Malcolm joined the band in 2008. He started playing in local bands from the Wide Bay area after leaving school. Malcolm spent 5 years playing with a seven-piece group called Moonshine featuring a brass section playing covers of Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago. Between the late 80’s and the present Malcolm has been a regular working member of The Ken Hodgkinson Mix 103.5 Big Band.
