Nambour Cinema screens first Italian Film Festival

Nambour Cinema and The Italian School Committee are joining forces to present an Italian Film Festival at the Nambour Cinema on November 7th, 8th and 9th.

The Festival features three films that have only been screened at Italian Film Festivals in the major capital cities and one film that had a very limited release in Melbourne and Sydney.

The Italian Film Festival will be officially opened on Friday 7th November at 6.15pm by the Italian Consulate representative, Dott. Stefano Mari and Councillor Joe Natoli.  Tickets for opening night are $18, which includes complimentary wine, authentic Italian finger food, and live music.  The featured opening film, Francesca & Nunziata, begins at 7.30pm.  It stars Sophia Loren as Francesca, the owner of a pasta factory.  After one of her nine children narrowly escapes death, Francesca vows to adopt an orphan.  Nunziata, a lovely little eight year-old enters their life.

Other films over the weekend include Concorrenza Sleale (Unfair Competition) on Saturday 8th at 3.30pm followed by a half hour discussion on the movie.  Unfair Competition, by esteemed Italian director Ettore Scola, tells the story of two neighbouring Italian families living in Rome - one Catholic, one Jewish.  The families' professional rivalry at first divides them but later binds them in friendship.

Domenica screens on Saturday 8th at 6.30pm and Sunday 9th at 7.00pm.  The film centres on the lives of Domenica, an orphaned girl who lives in a home run by nuns in Naples, and a police inspector who must accompany Domenica to identify the body of the man thought to have raped her.  It is a dramatic and moving story of two lonely people.

Angela, based on a true story of the real-life experiences of a Palermitan woman, is one woman's journey of survival in a cruel and heartless man's world.  Renouncing her family to marry for love, Angela embarks on a live of drug trafficking, easy money and a tormented affair.  Angela screens on Saturday 8th at 8.45pm and Sunday 9th at 4.45pm.

Bookings for the opening night are available through Maroochy Venues & Events located in the foyer of  the Nambour Civic Centre or phone 5475-7777.
