3 September 2007  National simultaneous story time comes to Maroochy Libraries
On Thursday 6 September at 11:00am, Maroochy Shire Council will join organisations from Broome to Hobart, reading the picture book The Magic Hat to more than a quarter of a million Australian children.
The event has been organised by the Australian Library and Information Association, to promote the value of reading and literacy, the importance of Australia's book industry and the role of libraries.
Now in its seventh successful year, national Simultaneous Story time will be held during Literacy and Numeracy Week, which is a commonwealth government initiative. The program aims to celebrate and acknowledge the vital work being done in schools and communities around Australia to develop young people's literacy and numeracy skills.
The Magic Hat is written by Mem Fox, illustrated by Tricia Tusa and published by Scholastic Australia and will be read at all Maroochy Libraries.
For more information about the local event, contact Council's Youth Services on 5475 8501 or contact the Australian Library and Information Association on 02 6215 8214.
