National Tree Day
Noosa Shire will celebrate National Tree Day on Friday 23rd July with a Cooroy State School planting bee between 11 am and 1 pm at Lake Macdonald's Gerry Cook Fish Hatchery, in Collwood Road, Cooroy.
Around 85 grade 7 students, their teacher Phil Giblet and parents will form the 100-strong working bee, supported by the Noosa and District Landcare Group, Council, Madill's Toyota, Bunning's of Noosaville, the Lake Macdonald Catchment Care Group and the Fish Hatchery.
Preparation and hole-digging will be undertaken by Landcare, Council and the Lake Macdonald and Mary River Catchment Care Groups on Thursday the 22nd. On the Friday Toyota will arrange a barbecue lunch, while Council, Landcare and Bunning's will each provide 100 trees, making a grand total of 300.
Other events will include a demonstration of Council's Aquatic Weed Harvester, a tour of the Fish Hatchery and a talk on the endangered Mary River Cod.
