National Youth Week, 1--10 April 2011. How will you 'Own It'?

National Youth Week (NYW) 2011 in Queensland will celebrate young peoples' views, ideas, participation and creativity and promotes them to the broader community.

The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring that all young people are valued as successful participants in the social, cultural and economic life of their community, and have the opportunity to participate in government and community decision making processes.

The Department of Communities provides funding of up to $70 000 for NYW events and activities. Community organisations and networks, young people's groups, and local government authorities in Queensland are encouraged to apply for funding to facilitate the involvement of young Queenslanders in NYW 2011.

In 2010, Queensland celebrated NYW with 14 events sponsored by beyondblue, 30 government-funded events and 170 unfunded community events that were held across the state.

Queensland NYW 2011 activities will support local and national objectives by ensuring that:

    * young people are involved in the decision making processes and have opportunities to influence NYW projects
    * young people from disadvantaged and marginalised backgrounds, including young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, are actively supported to become involved in NYW projects
    * the involvement of young people in NYW activities is promoted to the broader community and decision makers through a variety of media channels.
