28 December 2005  Families celebrate NYE at Mooloolaba
Mooloolaba esplanade and beach will be bursting with light, colour, music and fun on New Year's Eve in celebration at the Coast's largest organised event.

Maroochy Mayor, Joe Natoli, said his family was looking forward to this year's event.

"Our annual event is a great place for families," Cr Natoli said.

"There are rides and entertainment for the kids, as well as a choice of fantastic restaurants and band music for the adults, and the alcohol and glass-free policy and extra security staff make it a safe and friendly celebration for people of all ages.

"The early fireworks also allow kids to celebrate without having to stay up too late," Cr Natoli said.

The family-friendly Mooloolaba event will kick off at 5.00pm with roving entertainment and children's shows.  Amusement rides and food stalls will fill the Esplanade, which will be closed to traffic all day.

The popular Wiley Reed Band, alternating with a live broadcast hosted by  Hot91 FM's LC and Griffo, will have the beach stage at the 'Loo with a View' pumping from 7pm.

On the Esplanade stage, the children's shows will wrap up at 8pm to be replaced with the more up tempo sound of Shed featuring Michael Bryers.

Seven Local News identity, Rosanna Natoli, will lead the countdown to the 9pm fireworks, signalling the beginning of the 'big kids' party time.

More than 80,000 revellers are expected at the Mooloolaba event.  Sunbus will have extra services running, the timetable is available at, and a taxi marshal and security will be stationed at the temporary taxi rank at the Coles car park in Venning Street from 6pm.

"There will no doubt be many celebrations across Maroochy on New Year's Eve.  I wish everyone a fun and safe night and a very happy and prosperous 2006," Cr Natoli said.
