The Maroochydore Revitalisation Association was incorporated late last year with the objective of making Maroochydore a more vibrant place. It was never intended to be all about business, it was about delivering fun and lifestyle to the centre of Maroochydore.
It was about offering at least a taste of what our capital city counterparts can enjoy. We also wanted to make use of the existing infrastructure and resources available in Maroochydore. We think that we achieved that goal, at least for a day, with the Ocean Street World Festival in March and this Friday that spirit will be revived with Nights on Ocean. The World Festival became our opportunity to communicate with thousands of local residents, business people and visitors.
The locals told us that they had moved to the area on the promise of a redeveloped Big Top and a flourishing city centre. Locals told us of their expectation that the Ocean Street precinct would provide a city style cultural experience. They told us that, until now, they have been disappointed. But we can see that change is coming! While there are real signs that the Big Top renovation is gaining traction, the 230 local people who have joined the Revitalisation Association have taken control of their own futures.
We encourage people to visit our site, have a say, and join our cause by becoming a member. www.mra.org.au Our Committee Chair Liz Smith describes Nights on Ocean as a cross between a Street Festival and a market. Join your neighbours and workmates on Friday at 5pm to 9pm in Ocean Street for a cold beer at the hand made bar in the old post office alleyway. Try Gozleme at the Turkish stall. Enjoy the HiBoys live and outdoors in the street. Check out local art work and mingle with your friends and colleges.
Don’t go home after work this Friday! This free event will be, in every sense, a community movement that has the capacity to Transform the way we use our centre by giving one city street back to the people, at least once each month. Nights on Ocean: is an artisans market created to bring together creatives that specialise in art, culture, design and cuisine. Essentially this is a night market that has been created to bring the street alive with local and international food, great local bands and buskers as well as shopping for designer jewellery, clothes, bags and accessories. The Captain and The Dukes Bar will be able to serve you a drink to go with your food. Every month we will bring you new ideas and concepts to give opportunities to the incredible base of designers we have on the Sunshine Coast. Come straight after work to enjoy wine and tapas with work mates or come a bit later with your friends and family. To launch the first market we have Hi Boys, a Noosa based Rockabilly band.
Say “Cheeeese” with ‘Caravan of Smiles’ – funky photo booth caravan for must have photos with your friends. As well as local designers such as Jewellery from Cool Baby Cool, funky threads from Razzama Dazzle and fabulous bags and hats from Oliver. Food will include Thai, Mexican, wood fired pizza as well as gelatos.
