37,000 new library members -- why aren't you one?

More than 37,000 people have joined Sunshine Coast Libraries in the last two years. With 120,000 plus members, the 10 public libraries offer great services to the Coast community.

There remains a significant proportion of the population of the Coast who are not library members, and Sunshine Coast Council is seeking to find out why.

Is there something you'd like from the library? A service you think they should be providing? Can you spare some time to help make the libraries more relevant to you?

Sunshine Coast Libraries are looking for people who are not already members to participate in focus groups to find out what the library can do for you.

The libraries are offering a double pass to the movies to everyone who participates in the focus groups, as well as the chance to win an Apple iPad.

The focus groups will be run by Queensland University of Technology Information Systems Masters Students, who are working with Sunshine Coast Libraries to learn more about library services.

Community Policy and Programs Portfolio holder councillor Jenny McKay said the focus groups provided a fantastic opportunity for Sunshine Coast residents to inform council about the library services they are interested in and to suggest improvements to the services provided.

"Information from these focus groups, along with feedback from library customers, will help shape potential services for council's libraries into the future," Cr McKay said.

Sunshine Coast Libraries have over 165,000 members, of which around 120,000 are active customers. These active customers make up just over 36% of the Sunshine Coast population.

Cr McKay said Sunshine Coast Libraries are interested in finding out what services they can provide, or promote, to help reach the 64% of residents who aren't active members.

"The services offered by council's libraries are exceptional. After winning Public Library of the Year in 2009 from the Queensland Public Library Association, council wants to ensure that its libraries continue to provide services that are interesting, relevant and which strengthen our communities," she said.

"These focus groups are one aspect of finding out what Sunshine Coast residents want from their libraries."
The focus groups will be for one hour, and are running at the following locations and times:

Sunday 12 December at 10am in Noosa*
Wednesday 15 December, 1:30pm in Cooroy*

Thursday 16 December of 10am in Caloundra*

Thursday 16 December, 6pm in Nambour*
Friday 17 December at 10am in Maroochydore*
