Noosa will celebrate its biggest Australia Day event yet with a day of entertainment and fun for everyone, according to organisers. From a big Aussie breakfast to thong throwing, sailing, live music, pony rides and a citizenship ceremony, the family-friendly event will be held in Lions Park, Gympie Tce, Noosaville on Tuesday January 26.
Volunteers from Tewantin Noosa Lions Club and Noosa Heads Rotary Club are planning the event which will raise funds for the Noosa Salvation Army's work with domestic violence and women's refuges in the Noosa area.
"We'd love to see everyone come along and sit under the shade of the trees or marquees in the park with the beautiful Noosa River as a backdrop and enjoy the entertainment and family fun," Tewantin Noosa Lions Club member Jacqui Nichols said.
"The event has evolved over the years into what will be the biggest and most citizen and family oriented Australia Day that Noosa has seen. With the community stalls, music and activities, it'll have a real festival feel.
"Noosa Chorale will entertain us with their amazing talent and Noosa Heads Rotary Club will serve a traditional Aussie breakfast from 7am, followed by a citizenship ceremony from 9-10am. "Local legend and world champion swimmer Clinton Stanley is Noosa's 2016 Australia Day Ambassador and we have the Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss and his wife attending this year's ceremony."
The line-up of musicians from 10am features Harii Bandhu, The Custard Apples, Ryan Giles Band and headline act Mick Lindsay.
"We have such brilliant local talent and there'll be something for everyone," Jacqui said. Other activities include stand-up paddle boarding, sailing on a tacker with Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club for a gold coin, thong throwing organised by Noosa Sea Scouts, Dunny Capers toilet roll toss, pony rides, hair art, face painting, jumping castle, merry-go-round, Andino roaming magician, Twister Mister balloon art, children's activities from Bunning's and community stalls.
Tewantin Noosa Lions Club's barbecue van and chip trailer will serve food all day with some new Aussie menu item that the club expects will be a big hit with customers.
