Next week, Friday August 8th, 2008 11.15am
Catherine Cheung will give an inspiring presentation about NICA's schools litter reduction initiative. She will shock even the most informed with some of the effects being felt globally by plastics at sea, and perhaps even more, by matters closer to home which subsequently impact further afield.
Catherine is working with local schools to raise awareness about this problem and to encourage schools to reduce amounts of litter and treatment of it. There are some inspiring outcomes from the "Rubbish-free Lunch" component which not only go reduce litter but foster healthier eating and potentially, cost less - so bring savings for parents!

NPA Friday Environment Forum meetings
'Addicted to Coal!' Friday August 1st, 2008 11.15am
This week's NPA Friday Environment Forum, following an abbreviated Open Forum debate, will welcome guest speaker, Graham Smith, co-ordinator of PAGE - Powerlines Action Group Eumundi, who will explain how the current threat imposed by the looming construction of mega electricity pylons across Sunshine Coast Hinterland, has come about through the "addiction to coal" mentality.
Given that Federal Government's mandatory target is 20% for renewable energy by 2020, and that the emissions trading system is to be in place by 2010, with a cap of 60% by 2050 - PAGE poses the question, "Why are these huge resources being channelled into this dated and destructive technology, instead of investing in renewable energy and sustainable development strategies?"
With many more interesting and challenging statistics and snippets of information, Graham's presentation is not to be missed. Every issue is relevant to all!
Noosa Park Café Update
For those who may not have received or read President, Ian Seel's bulletin in NPA newsletter, the latest information from Ian about the "storm in a teacup" will be read to members. Despite claims in the Press, he assures members they can be certain that any plans for hospitality were only to be for beverages by the glass, served under licensed conditions and as a service to enhance the Park experience of walkers and others. Clearly it is more desirable for the environment that a responsible organisation with a proven environmental focus, provides this service, for many reasons including matters such as litter management, which will be dealt with even more stringently.
