Our new Council is working well with a team of committed and passionate Councillors With a stated promise of open government and wide consultation, good decisions and good outcomes are more achievable.

Council Agendas with reports and Minutes are listed on the Noosa Council website. Go to then follow the menus to ‘council’ and ‘meetings’.. If you are into social media, check out their Facebook page.

NRRA first Meeting for 2014

Our last meeting was held on 19th March at Soccer clubhouse at Girraween. The program included a residents’ issues forum and guest speaker. Guest speaker was Brett De Chastel, Noosa Council new CEO. The meeting enjoyed a well presented background to the CEO, his vision and his view of the new Council.

Members were able to discuss a range of issues that NSRRA should consider, from ‘Kerbside Cleanup’ to waste, to access to public parks and the Noosa River. The bar was open at the end of the meeting.

Next Meeting

Wed 11th June at Girraween sports centre near Noosa Heads Police Station. 6:15pm for a 6:30pm start.

‘Waste Not-Want Not’ - Cr Joe Jurisevic and Wayne Schafer from Noosa Council will tell us whats happening in the waste world in Noosa .. From cleanups, to recycling to Refuse tip management, there will be something for everyone.

Also MP Glen Elmes is trying to fit in a visit back to Noosa for the meeting to update us on State Govt matters affecting us locally.

NSRRA Community Watchdog

The Noosa Biosphere Reserve management structure review is currently being considered by Council. Following extensive consultation, Council working group is ready for the next step. It is an important subject that impacts us all. More soon.

In 2013 NRRA made submissions to relevant decision makers on two contentious development issues facing the new Council in 2014. ’ Noosa on Weyba ’ and the Noosa Heads Bowls Club. The Bowls Club development is being negotiated BUT........

It's not over yet!

Over 1000 submissions from the community objecting to the Noosa on Weyba proposal, refusal by two Local Governments on more than 20 different grounds, and conditions imposed by the State's Department of Environment and Heritage Protection that render the proposal unworkable, have not been sufficient to make the developers Godfrey Mantle and John Hoffman reconsider the viability and merits of this contentious proposal.

The Noosa Shire Council, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection have been listed as Respondents to the Appeal and the relevant Notices of Election have been lodged with the Court to defend their decisions. Unity Water has also elected to become a co-respondent.

All submitters have now received, as required by the Court, letters from the lawyers for the developers advising of the lodgement of the Notice of Appeal. Submitters may elect to become a co-respondent by filing a Notice of Election with the Court within 10 business days of receipt of the letter, but are not compelled to do so.

Notices must be filed by the 30th May 2014. Please don't hesitate to contact us by email if you require further information or assistance.

Council is to be commended for trialling an electric car and carrying out research into smaller electric buses. Imagine the difference!

Council is grappling with an erosion problem at Munna Point. More to come on this issue.

NRRA is currently upgrading our Facebook page and website. We will continue to keep you updated via this Newletter. Don’t hesitate to contact NRRA.
