NOOSA'S MAYFIESTA PROMISES 31 DAYS OF CELEBRATIONS FOR VISITORS AND LOCALS ALIKE
In its second year, Noosa Mayfiesta is set to offer visitors and residents alike some very good reasons why the month of May is an ideal time of year to celebrate everything Noosa.
With 31 different events and activities taking place, and some great deals on accommodation, tours and restaurants, this innovative, off-season campaign is designed to boost visitation and local activity at an ideal time of the year.
Speaking at the launch today, Tourism Noosa Chair, Steve Molnar said that the Noosa Mayfiesta campaign is an ideal vehicle to raise awareness of Noosa and address seasonality.
"May is a great time to be in Noosa and this campaign aims to promote all the reasons why, ranging from the continued warm weather, the many events that are set to take place throughout the month and the range of special offers that are available".
Annual events such as A Celebration of Australian Food and Wine - Noosa Style, the Noosa Journal Riverfest Regatta and the Noosa Blue Water Swim are some of Mayfiesta's main events, but there are also some new events that have been created especially to tie in with Noosa Mayfiesta.
Ranging from the Kin Kin Art, Wellbeing & Bush Tucker Day, Noosa Harbour Fiesta and Thomas Street's Global Food Festival, these new events reflect the importance of community involvement in growing a campaign such as Mayfiesta to the point where May is no longer a slow season".
Noosa Mayfiesta gets off to a rolling start with Rock'n'Tewantin 10 day extravaganza of dance competitions and concerts which run for 12 days up to and including 1 May. Feature artists include Ross Wilson and the Delltones. Music turns blue as the month progresses with the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival "Rent Party" on May 27.
Food is the flavour of the month in the form of "A Celebration of Australian Food & Wine", which runs from May 12-14, providing an event for foodies, chefs, wine makers and restaurateurs.
Never far from the mind - and taste buds - of locals and visitors alike, food makes its presence felt at the Long Table dinner hosted by Eats of Eumundi.
Arts make its presence felt too in May with the National One Act Playwrighting Festival from May 11 to 20, as well as the Cooroy Wood and Craft Show on May 12 and 13, and with the "Power of Ceremony" showcase of indigenous artists in Tewantin from May 12 to 28.
For the active visitor there's nothing more enticing than the Noosa Blue Water 2km Swim on May 21 from Tea Tree Bay or tee off at one of Noosa's various golf challenges.
Don't miss a weekend of activities along the Noosa River during the Riverfest Regatta, 20 and 21 May with an array of rowing, sailing and fishing competitions each day. Stay on in Noosaville after the Regatta on May 20 for the very tasty Global Food Festival along Thomas Street.
Variety is the spice of life in Noosa with attractions to appeal to all. The Pomona National Trust Heritage Festival on May 20 offers live music and classic silent movies at the 1921 Majestic Theatre while you can take in some moonlight cinema at Alfresco in Doonan on May 13.
The festival mood reaches a peak on May 27 with the Noosa Harbour Mayfiesta with Latin American- style piñatas, salsa dancing and live music and at Kin Kin on May 28 where a brand new event invites visitors to "look at art, feel the wellbeing and taste the bush tucker experience.
To compliment these fantastic events being held throughout the month, there are special offers from accommodation houses, tour operators and restaurants to ensure May is full of value.
