Crack field lines up in Noosa
Australia's international superstars of cycling are returning to Noosa on 31 October for the Northside Party Hire Noosa Grand Prix.
With the coveted Noosa title up for grabs, reputations on the line and $10,000 up for grabs, the competitors will be putting the hurt on each other with every lap.
A crack field that includes three time winner of the prestigious green jersey in the Tour de France and defending champion Robbie McEwen, 2007 Herald Sun Tour winner Matt Wilson is mounting a challenge along with Scott Davis, Ben Day, Aaron Kemps and Trent Wilson, all capable of taking the title. The capped field of 60 riders will turn it on in front of a massive crowd that religiously lines the course.
Aussie track cycling star Ben Kersten will make his debut appearance at the Noosa this year recently winning the American Criterium Championships. The 28 year old Commonwealth Games 1km time trial champion and former national champion is an avowed one-kilometer specialist, he's equally adept when it comes to the Keirin, Scratch race, Team Sprint, Team's Pursuit, and road racing events. But then the type of event doesn't really matter, Kersten just enjoys racing and will be keen to make an impression over this format.
The field is further boosted with international Koen de Kort, the flying Dutchman who rides for Skil-Shiman. He rode a great Tour de France this year and will be a danger man for the Aussies. Another international that is sure to feature in the bunch is New Zealand's most credentialed rider, Greg Henderson. The former world track champion recently boosted his professional road career when he won the third stage of the Tour of Spain and is married to Australian cyclist Katie Mactier.
Fast, furious, non-stop action, there is no better place to be than Noosa Parade and with spectators only metres away from the riders there is no such thing as a bad seat.
Lap by lap watch the mind games begin and the race unfold, with the riders rubbing shoulders, racing wheel to wheel and trying to burn each other's legs with bursts of speed on the tight and technical hot dog criterium circuit.
The 45min plus three lap is the ultimate test of will and fitness, culminating in the traditional and desperate run to the line as the riders try to extract the last ounce of energy from trashed bodies.
Don't miss the action at 4.35 pm on Super Saturday, with the world's best laying it all on the line for the big bucks and the ultimate bragging rights.
The 2009 Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival will be held from 28 October to 1 November.
