James Johnston and The Drift could be on one of the most ambitious journeys in Australian touring history. With nothing but a van and a travelling stage, the singer songwriter and his fellow travellers are on a mission to test their mental and physical boundaries. Over 50 consecutive days, they will play 50 shows, across 5 states in a journey that will take James far beyond anywhere he's been before. The Sunshine Coast is lucky enough to be host to one of the 50 shows with a gig at Tewantin Noosa RSL on Monday 6th May in the Diggers Bar.
Now with The Drift, James Johnston will set off on May 5th from Brisbane's iconic Caxton Street Festival. Supported by outstanding youngsters Josh McCartney and Matt Graham, James will literally be popping up in Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, and will return to Brisbane for his 50th and final show.
They will be raising funds for the Australian Children’s Music Foundation and visiting remote schools and juvenile institutions on the way showing how music can change your life. They will also be releasing James’ new CD, “Moving Target”.
Only in his early 20's but an industry veteran of no less than 8 years, James Johnston is leading the next wave of talent produced by the Australian music industry as a singer, songwriter and entertainer, his talents have seen him grow from a contestant on Australian Idol to a genuine Australian artist. Last year was a remarkable year for him, seeing him become one of Australia’s finest young talents.
With the release of his self titled debut EP, and the release of his new single "What You're Waiting for", his progression over the last three years has seen him become a staple in the Australian touring scene; scaling Australia from top to bottom plying his trade and sharing his immense talent with the rest of the country. Having toured the country for four years straight with nothing but a guitar for company, James Johnston has been a lone traveller. In that time he's driven 250,000km and played close to 1000 gigs.
After receiving rave reviews for his performances away from television, James Johnston builds a solid fan base wherever he performs. Whilst busking and performing anywhere he could to support his music habit, James connected with Australian audiences who have since followed him all the way to his own headline performances throughout Australia. James’ carefully crafted songs encompass an array of refreshingly honest lyrics with strong anthemic beats lifting the mood in any room.
