Fine Tenor for Lake Macdonald

Italian -- Australian tenor, Virgilio Marino will lend his golden voice to complete a marvellous cast when OPERATIF! present Opera in the Amphitheatre at Lake Macdonald, Cooroy on Sunday 19th September.

Virgilio has won numerous competitions, studied with many of the world's favourite singers and attended Mannes College of Music in New York. Among on-going engagements here and overseas, Brisbane-based Virgilio is also a regular soloist with Opera Queensland. He will sing La Donna e Mobile, the love duet from La Boheme, the famous The Pearl Fishers duet and many more.

The other fine singers performing are soprano Jennifer Parish, baritone Stewart Cameron, soprano Sally Harrison and young coloratura soprano, Elizabeth Smalley. All will be ably accompanied by brilliant pianist John Woods who, currently working at Qld Conservatorium, has enjoyed a marvellous career playing for many famous artists throughout Britain and Europe.

'A concert at the amphitheatre is always a marvellous occasion," said soprano Jennifer Parish. "From the moment you arrive at the venue you can feel a buzz of anticipation as you see people picnicking in the gardens or starting to arrive, the truck pulls up and the precious grand piano is unloaded, gowns and tails are hung in the dressing rooms and everyone starts to prepare for a wonderful afternoon of music."

With sunny spring days just around the corner, it's a perfect time to enjoy the Sunshine Coast's most magical venue. The concert which begins at 3.30 pm features the usual sparking OPERATIF! cocktail of popular opera highlights, operetta gems and songs from the shows. The audience can enjoy two hours of fabulous music and thrilling voices and the performance will finish in daylight at around 5.30pm.

There's still time to book or for those unable to plan ahead, tickets will be available at the amphitheatre on the day from 2pm.

OPERA in the Amphitheatre
Lake Macdonald, Cooroy
Sunday, 19th September at 3.30pm

With perfect Spring days just around the corner, what better way to spend a  Sunday afternoon than sitting in the lakeside amphitheatre at Lake Macdonald and indulging in a couple of hours of thrilling, spine tingling opera and song.

Queensland's own OPERATIF! company once again presents a fine selection of artists and a program guaranteed to keep everyone enthralled. Joining foundation members, soprano Jennifer Parish and baritone Stewart Cameron are fine Italian-born tenor, Virgilio Marino, soprano Sally Harrison, esteemed pianist John Woods from Qld Conservatorium and young Coloratura Soprano, Elizabeth Smalley.

"We've presented a variety of artists at the amphitheatre in the past, but this line up will be fabulous," said Stewart Cameron. "Many who attend Opera Queensland will have enjoyed hearing Virgilio in a variety of roles and the vivacious Sally Harrison is always popular." Performing with OPERATIF! for the first time is Scottish-born pianist John Woods who has accompanied many great singers over the years and also Elizabeth Smalley who will graduate from the Qld Conservatorium this year and who possesses a marvellously high voice range. "People will certainly love her thrilling top notes," Jennifer added.

The Sunday before the Amphitheatre concert, the company will perform at the opening of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers. "It's rather a different scenario though," Jennifer laughed, "Proceedings begin with a performance at the Mayoral breakfast and early mornings are always a challenge for voices!"

To join OPERATIF! at the Amphitheatre for a marvellous afternoon of Verdi, Puccini, Mozart and much more, it's wise to book in advance. Many attendees enjoy a pre-concert picnic in the beautiful Botanic Gardens which surround the lake.

"It really is a magical venue in a stunning setting and the Sunshine Coast is very fortunate to have it," Stewart said. "I can think of no-where else in Australia which has a purpose-built amphitheatre, with structured seating and a stage complete with Greek columns. The positioning of the stage right in front of the lake means the audience have a truly beautiful backdrop to enjoy."

The performance will finish in daylight at around 5.30pm.
