Tuesday 28 August at the Nambour Civic Centre
Opera Queensland and Queensland Arts Council will present the concert production of The Food of Love to regional audiences in 12 Queensland centres from 14 August to 4 September, 2007. Across a three-week period, the artists and touring team will travel the length and breadth of the state to stage performances in Cairns, Ingham, Ayr, Hughenden, Richmond, Mount Isa, Bundaberg, Nambour, Ipswich, Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe and Toowoomba.
The Food of Love features popular Brisbane baritone Jason Barry-Smith and rising tenor Virgilio Marino together with three of Opera Queensland's sensational Young and Developing Artists: soprano Jessica O'Donoghue, mezzo-soprano Victoria Lambourn and baritone Simon Schmidt. A local flavour will be added to the concerts in Ingham, Ayr, Nambour, Stanthorpe and Toowoomba which will feature performances by the respective local choirs.
The stage becomes a French restaurant, where the loves and longings of the diners are revealed through some of the most memorable melodies ever written. Featuring the music of celebrated composers such as Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Donizetti, J. Strauss, Léhar and Gilbert & Sullivan, The Food of Love is a smorgasbord of musical courses for all tastes.
The Food of Love was created by Jason Barry-Smith and Opera Queensland's Head of Music, Narelle French. The production premièred in Brisbane in 2004 for a two-performance season at the Conservatorium Theatre, South Bank. Due to its overwhelming success, it toured regional Queensland in 2005.
The Food of Love is the latest in a series of productions which combines the resources of Opera Queensland and Queensland Arts Council to tour opera to regional Queensland.
