Permaculture Design Your Backyard Veggie Village Workshop, Sunday March 22nd
Want to grow your own veggies at home and not know how to start? Do you hanker to turn all that wasted lawn into a fun and productive food environment? Or long to walk out the back and feed the chooks? Permaculture design guru Janet Millington will be conducting a workshop to show you how at Veggie Village Sunday March 22nd 9-11.30am. Cost $15.
Veggie Village promotes sustainability and community participation through growing organic fruit and vegetables in a friendly and fun environment. Veggie Village Community Gardens are located at Di Hurst Oval, Rufous St, Peregian Beach.
Janet's workshop will explore the reasons for using permaculture methods, and cover vital design topics such as: garden beds - best aspects and shapes; water catchment, storage and reticulation; soil building with compost and worm farms, plant species selection and procurement; and where to put the tool shed!
Janet said that workshop participants would be able to look at their own backyards and redesign it to maximise its food production potential.
"Permaculture is about working with and enhancing natural systems, as well as having fun growing food. We will also cover techniques to overcome difficult site constraints such as sandy or boggy areas as well as outline ideas for creating special areas of natural diversity in your own yard," said Janet.
