PRINTPOINT MASTERS SURFING CIRCUIT
Event 3 of 4
Saturday, 20th August
QUEENSLAND TITLES ON THE LINE AT PRINTPOINT MASTERS
Event 3 of the Printpoint Masters Surfing Circuit at the Sunshine Coast on the 20th of August is shaping as the pivotal event of the 4 event series. A number of surfers will have the chance to tie up a Queensland Title with a good result, while others will be using the event to claw back the ratings lead of their opponents. The series will be decided on the best three out of four events in the 2005 Printpoint Masters Surfing Circuit.
Surfers from Rainbow Beach to the border will be vying for ratings points to claim a Queensland Title and a spot in the Queensland Team to compete at the Australian Surfmasters. Competitors aged from 28 to 60 years plus will be hitting the surf on the Sunshine Coast, and although the competitors are older, the spirit of competition has not mellowed and neither has standard of surfing.
In the over 28 years division multiple Queensland and Australian Title holder Mark Richardson will be out to add another Queensland Title to his collection, and can seal victory with a win on the Sunshine Coast in this 3rd round of the Printpoint Masters series. However winner of event two and long time sparring partner Dave Nielsen will be looking to grab a win to give himself a chance of dragging the title away from Richardson. Tony Paris (Coolum), Matt Clarke (Maroochydore), and Paul Buratowski (Main Beach), are the other surfers with a mathematical chance to stop Richardson claiming the Printpoint Masters Queensland Title.
Dean Lock (Currumbin) and James Ellen (Mudgeeraba) will be out to shut the gate to the Queensland Title in both their respective over 35 and over 40 years' divisions. Both surfers already have two wins out of two events in the series. Coolangatta surfer Steve McIver, and Marty Peters of Broadbeach will be the nearest rivals in the over 35 years division, with Makita Hisanaga (Surfers Paradise) and Craig Seiberhagen (Tallebudgera) the only other surfers with a chance for the title in the over 40 years division.
The over 45 years division is wide open, North Stradbroke Island surfer Craig Frampton leads the ratings from Craig Maddison (Miami), but poised to strike will be winner of round 1 Peter Pringle (Mudjimba), and round two winner Ross Stewart (Burleigh Heads).
The over 50 years division will see Michael Whitely (Currumbin) looking to increase his ratings lead from Peter Eales (Sunshine Coast), Gary Palmer (Currumbin), and Gordon Barnes (Currumbin).
Once again surfers will be looking for the wave that could score them the Tooheys Extra Dry "Wave of the Weekend", and four cartons of the crisp clean taste of Tooheys Extra Dry awarded to the surfer who scores the best wave of the event.
The Printpoint Masters Surfing Circuit has over 28, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 60 years divisions, and entries are still available from Surfing Queensland on 07 55201165 or entry forms can be downloaded from www.surfingqueensland.com .
