Queen's Baton - Noosa sites  27/01/2006

The Queen's Baton for the Commonwealth Games will be visiting Noosa Shire on the morning of Thursday, February 2nd and several community celebrations are planned for relay spectators.

After arriving from Maroochydore, the relay's Noosa segment will start in Noosa Drive near Noosa Blue Resort on Noosa Hill at around 8.58, possibly creating minor (five minute) traffic delays in some areas.

On its way to its Cooroy departure point it is scheduled to traverse Hastings Street, the Main Beach boardwalk, Noosa Parade (9.14 to 9.33), Howard Street, Gympie Terrace (9.36 to 9.48), Hilton Terrace (9.52 to 10.18), Memorial Avenue, Diyan Street, Poinciana Avenue (10.25 to 10.32), Butler Street, entering Cooroy Noosa Road at 10.37. 

At around 10.44, at a point just past Fairway Drive the relay will proceed by motorised convoy towards Cooroy.  When it reaches Miva Street at about 10.57 the convey will change to runner mode, traversing Diamond Street, Elm Street, Myall Street, Maple Street, Emerald Street, Wattle Street, Garnett Street and back to Myall Street, departing in convoy from a point near the Cooroy Golf Club at 11.13.

Shire Lions Clubs are hosting sausage sizzles at key points along the way.  The Lions Club of Noosa Heads will be on barbecue duty at the Noosa Heads Lions Park from 8.00 am to 10 am.   The Tewantin Noosa Lions will host their sausage sizzle at the Noosaville Lions Park between 9 am and 10 am and the Cooroy-Pomona Lions will be turning the sosos at the Cooroy Railway Station between 10 am and 11.30 am.
